Project description
The project aims to develop new methodologies to convert natural occurring oils, in this case obtained from cashew nut shells, into building blocks for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, paints and plastics. In other words, the research project aims at the preparation of useful chemicals starting from agricultural waste. The project focuses on the development of new catalysts and the utilization of existing catalyst systems for the conversion of phenolic olefins that constitute one of the major fractions in cashew nut shell oil. This way we want to develop a sustainable route to substituted styrenes. These can serve as building blocks for a range of interesting fine chemical intermediates.Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with a Masters or equivalent degree in synthetic chemistry, with excellent laboratory skills, and a strong affinity with catalysis. Experience with the manipulation of air and moisture sensitive compounds is preferred.
