The CatchBio Energy Cluster focuses on new routes to catalytically convert biomass sources to bio-fuel components. This will be done by focusing on:
1. Carbohydrate chemistry, which includes the selective conversion of oxygenates (cellulose and hemi-cellulose) to fuel components (via oxygenated intermediates)
2. Upgrading of fatty biomass, however, in other transportation fuel molecules than fatty acid methyl esters
3. C1 chemistry, in which the main focus will be on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis
