To tackle the different scientific and technological issues involved in biomass conversion, CatchBio is divided in five research clusters.
Three of these clusters center around the three main production sectors:
1. Energy
2. Bulk Chemicals
3. Fine Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals
Research projects in these three thematic clusters will integrate fundamental, applied and industrial research into new homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, catalytic conversions, novel catalytic processes and their related reactor technologies. The research is carried out in close co-operation with industry.
Generic research
Some research projects are rather generic in nature to the three production sectors and are grouped into a separate cluster. Furthermore, the exploration of the different catalytic options will have an important impact on the future choices that are necessary for energy conversion and chemicals production technologies. Therefore, research projects will be conducted to investigate the socio-economical and ethical aspects of the different generated technological options.
4. Generic Research
5. Socio-economic and Ethical Research
