Born 1953 in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Married in 1981 with Marianne; 3 sons: Rob (1985), Marc (1987) and Erik (1991).
Graduated cum laude in Chemistry (1977, Catholic University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands) with specializations Inorganic and Theoretical Chemistry.
Received PhD in Chemistry (1981, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands). Thesis: The Chemistry of Sulphines, Co-ordinated to Low-Valent Metal Centres.
Graduated in Chemical Technology (1985, University of Technology Twente, The Netherlands).
Started with Shell in Amsterdam in 1982 and fulfilled various research positions in oil refining processes, chemical processes and catalysis.
Since 1999 Regional Manager Innovation and Research in Shell Global Solutions International B.V. in Amsterdam, currently responsible for medium and long term research in GSIR/1 on CO2-capture & -sequestration, biomass upstream and conversion to biofuels.
