Dr Anthony van Zijl
Toon van Zijl, born in Leiden 1979, obtained his PhD degree in 2008 at the University of Groningen. His thesis, in the field of synthetic organic chemistry and under the guidance of Prof. Feringa, dealt with copper-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation and its applications in synthesis. Subsequently, he obtained a Rubicon fellowship and did postdoctoral research in the group of Prof. Diederich at ETH Zürich, designing and synthesizing new enzyme inhibitors with antimalarial properties.
He joined SABIC in 2010 as a chemical development engineer and is currently leading a team of organic chemists, providing plant support and trouble shooting for SABIC’s steam crackers, separation trains and downstream plants in the area of fouling and contaminants in hydrocarbon streams. In addition, he is involved in the development of new routes to renewable feedstocks and bio-based chemicals.
